Have you ever heard of Agaricus blazei murill before? It’s a type of mushroom that has been known for generations to have a range of different health benefits. There are a variety of ways to consume Agaricus Blazei, but one of the most common, and effective, options is as a mushroom tea.
It is worth asking - how do we know that this mushroom has all these amazing health benefits? The answer is that it has been a part of many studies that have all come to the same or very similar conclusions.
Hetland Study
One of the studies that used Agaricus blazei murill (ABM) was the Hetland study. The mushroom originally comes from the Brazilian rainforest and has since been studied by a range of people. The Hetland study was looking at the results from these other studies, and seeing what impacts the mushroom had on tumors, infections, allergies, and inflammation as well as a preventative. It was found that if you give the AMB extract to the patient before they get infected, the survival rate increases by around 40%. This is a significant increase and one that should be explored further. If this is the impact that was had on a smaller scale, we can only imagine how impressive this could be if you were to apply it to a larger scale.
Wang, Fu, and Han
In 2013, Wang, Fu, and Han conducted a study called ‘The Medicinal Values of Culinary-Medicinal Royal Sun Mushroom (Agaricus blazei Murill)’. They found a number of effects that included an antidiabetic impact due to the fact that it is rich in polysaccharides. They also found that there were anti-inflammatory and antiallergic effects from this mushroom as well. However, they did also determine that there needs to be further research into one of the areas which was concerned with blood pressure and the A. brasiliensis of which not much is known right now.
Mitigating Stress
There was a study conducted that showed that this special mushroom has antidepressant-like activity. The study looked specifically at stressed and unstressed mice to see what would happen if the hydroalcoholic extract of ABM was given to the stressed mice. In the end, it turned out that there were some promising results, showing that there is, in fact, an antidepressant quality to the mushroom, meaning that it can help with depression.
Depression and stress disorders often come hand in hand. Antidepressant medication is often also targeted at people who are struggling with some kind of stress disorder. It is all to do with the chemical serotonin, which is known for being the chemical associated with mood and cognitive function.
Lessening The Impacts Of Chemotherapy
One study showed that the mushroom extract was successful when it came to improving the quality of life for those who were undergoing chemotherapy for gynecological cancer. Chemotherapy is hard on the body, and there are also a lot of unwanted side effects to deal with such as general weakness, loss of appetite, alopecia, emotional stability, and others like this. It was found that the ABM extract worked well, and improved the side effects through the use of the treatment. As such, this study would seem to suggest that taken at the same time as chemotherapy, the side effects would be significantly less than they would be without the use of the mushroom extract.
AMB has been found previously to have antimutagenic and antitumor effects. While this needs to be investigated further, the study rather conclusively states that taking the mushroom extract helped a number of patients.
Insulin Resistance
One study was focused on looking at insulin resistance and whether or not ABM extract could help with this in type 2 diabetes. This study was conducted using the extract and a placebo to see whether or not the effects were genuine. What they found was that when you combine the ABM extract with Metformin and Gliclazide which are both drugs that are used for the treatment of diabetes. At the end of the study, looking at the results, it was easy to see that those who received the supplement of the ABM extract had increased insulin resistance.
Liver Function With Hepatitis B
There are a lot of people in the world who have hepatitis B. It is a big problem, and as of yet, there is no concrete solution to treat it. There has been a range of alternative medicines that people have used to cope with hepatitis B in the past, and there was a 1-year study that aimed to look at whether ABM extract improved liver function in patients who had this illness. The results of this study were that it helps to stabilize and normalize the liver function of patients who have chronic hep B.
At the end of the study, it does state that there should be more studies based on this one but on a larger scale. This was quite a small study and while it yielded promising results, a larger sample group would need to be conducted to say for sure.
As you can see, there are a number of Agaricus blazei benefits. While there are still studies being conducted, it’s easy to see that the initial evidence points toward Agaricus blazei benefiting many areas of human health. If you’re looking for ways to improve your health and want to do so naturally, consider adding this mushroom tea to your diet.
